Works in Progress, thoughts on 365.

Hey all. Been a while since I made a legitimate post.

The project is coming along very well, as you've hopefully noticed from the photos. I'll be doing updates just about every week (I'm thinking every Wednesday, and the last day of every month, be it a Wednesday or not). I suppose I should offer those interested some additional background in why I'm attempting this.

My background in music is pretty broad. I've never really focused on any one thing for too long. I have very little formal training, and have jumped from all-vocal, to electric guitar, to acoustic guitar, to synthtastic beepy noises. Really, if something makes a sound, I'm all about it.

I began my foray into more electronic shenannigans around the same time I had the pleasure of taking an Electronic Composition class at Drew University, with my good professor Norman Lowrey. We were blessed to own one of the original Moog Modular synthesizers. Around the same time, my buddy Liam was sending me electronic grooves for me to put vocals over. The results had what some would call a nerdcore-ish sound, and while this is a blast to record (and we plan to do a few more tracks), I'm always looking to try something new.

ThinkTank is a completely open-ended experimental project that will attempt to blend curious noises, constructed beeps, and uncomfortable samples. My end goal is to have it encompass everything from ambient soundscapes, to twelve of myself singing in quarter-tones just to say I did it. Norman encouraged us to try different things, and to be a sonic explorer. Hopefully I can fulfill that goal.

365//12412 will be a year long project. I will be working on other material alongside it.

I am a musician at heart, not a photographer by any means. I have never studied professional photography, nor have I previously taken much of a vested interest in learning the craft. I thought this would be an interesting way to document a new experience as I start to pave my own way in the "real world."

For now, enjoy a completely unrelated, not-fully-finished track.

The beginnings of Track 1: June 2008 (Mr. Shakey) will be posted on the 30th. It will be an underscore for the 30 photos you have followed for this month.

Thanks for your support. Keep on rockin'.
